Fishing to know you!
One of our favorite games this past week was "Fishing to know you!"
The kids all got to take a turn to hold the fishing pole (with a magnet on the end) and then try to catch a fish (with a paper clip on it.) After they catch a fish I read what the fish says, such as "What is your favorite food," or "What do you do for fun?".
It was a lot of fun.. until one of our kids try to "Cast" the pole. Luckily no one got hurt. It was actually kind of funny :0)

Music Transitions
Each month we have a music time set up on the flannel board. We get to take turns picking a song to sing. This really helps us in our transition times to help get our attention on what we are changing to. This month we have an icecream cone. On the back of each ice cream scoop is a number. The child that picked the scoop identifies the number then we sing designated song for that number :0)
Shape Monster!
Shape Monster is one of our most favorite games at school! He is often brought out to help us practice our shapes.
We all chant "Shape monster, Shape monster..munch,munch,munch, (child's name) feel me a (shape) for lunch!" The designated child then looks at the flash card and finds the right shape and feeds it to the shape monster! We continue until each child has had a turn.

Use your pinchers!
We are working on our pinchers for early writng skills. Learning how to properly hold your pencil or crayon is very important before actually learning to write. I always say, "pinch your crayon!" to help them be able to remember how to hold it corectly.
Be sure to remind your kids this at home too :0)

Left to Right -- Early Writing Skills
We are working on our Early Writing skills during the next two weeks. I really mainly want the kids to understand the Left to Right Concept.
Each child made their own finger car as well as colored a page with streets.
If possible, please help your child drive their car from the left (the arrow) and drive to the stop sign.
Also remind them to start over again on the next street and go left to right. The cars cannot go back forth.

We are decorating Pizza boxes this year to help keep all of our master pieces in! A big Thank you to the Bostrom's (Erik's family)for helping us with the pizza boxes!!!
Here is the one that I made. I spray painted it black (which I do not recommend because it made a big mess) and then I just scrap booked on the top. You can do what ever you want!! Please just return sometime next week :0)
Have fun!

WELCOME SUPER HEROS - OPEN HOUSE
We had a great time out our Open House this year!
We again, used the Super Hero theme. The kids had stations to visit. At each station there was a paper that read about what they do there. After their parents read the paper they got a gold coin. Once all gold coins were collected they could come to me and receive a prize.
We had a lot of fun :0)
Pick-A-Pocket Apron
I have had this apron for years! In fact a good friend of mine made it for me :0)
I hide objects in the pockets and the kids can come and pick one out. This year I used it at my open house. Each pocket had something that represented what we do at school. It was a fun way to get out information to parents as well as kids without it being so boring.
Learning Necklace
At the beginning of the school year I am giving each of the kids a necklace.
Each time we learn a new letter, number, theme, shape, or even color the kids will receive a new charm for their necklace.
The kids get to take the necklace home at the end of the year to show off all of the things that they learned!

Super Heros
My classroom theme for this year is SUPER HEROS! I decided it would be fun to make super hero capes for each of the kids to wear when they come to school. When they arrive their cape is on their backpack hook. After they hang up their bag they can wear the cape!
After all, when they come to school they are no longer just kids... they are SUPER KIDS!
Home to School Check in
Picking helpers
My favorite way to pick students to help is by picking craft sticks. This year I made each child a stick with a picture on them. Each stick has a name on it. When I need a helper I pick a stick and then place them aside. This way I always know who has had a turn and who has not. Makes my life much easier :0)
Super Star of the Week!
Every two weeks a student will be picked to be the Super star of the week. The child will get to fill the bucket with things that represents them. They can also fill it with their favorite treats to share with the kids.
The Super star will also receive a poster to fill out that tells all about them! The poster will be hung up in the classroom for about two weeks.
Parents are also encouraged to come in during the last ten minutes of class to read to the kids the Super stars favorite book.
